Do you remember Crayon resist?

I am doing the Tiddly Ink's Challenge using the "I (heart) to Stamp" sketch and this time the Tiddly Ink challenge is to use paint on your project.

I picked my image before i knew what i was going to do...and then for some reason i thought about the crayon resist i used to do in elementary school.  I loved that technique when i was in school, what i didn't like was the "poster paint" we had to use..it would flake off and get everywhere, sort of like glitter.  Thank goodness we now have acrylic paint...so i tried something old and made it new for me.

Here is the result:
This is how i did it:
1. I cut out the background paper (i used white) i was going to use the same size as my card base knowing that i would cut at least 1/4" off the edges.
2. I colored dots and large a large circle and the rest blue, keeping in mind where i was going to place my image. Also when i was in elementary school, they had us color solidly (no white space) and to make it "thick".  That's fine, but i wanted a bit more of the black to stay.

3. Next you paint the entire thing black...again, i used black acrylic paint.  Let that dry thoroughly.  Once it's dry find something you can scrap the paint of with that isn't sharp, but has an edge..i used a penny. (cheap tool) :)  However, if you wanted to write something, you might consider an embossing tool.
4. I then decided to use an embossing folder.  I have this cool starburst one from Sizzix and used that.  Then i also, sanded it and got more "resist" look.
5. Now i colored and cut out my image to "match" the background.  Hard to see in this photo, but i colored her hair the color of the circle/stars.
6. Now for a "sketch"...i choose to use the I (heart) 2 stamp sketch:
7.  I added the strip behind my image by using vellum.  I also used my star embossing folder on this piece.  Added the spiderweb ribbon and the "Happy Halloween" using my Wild Card cart.
