For Baby Anna

One of my dearest friends is having a baby girl in May and i thought this would be a great card to make.  I've been loving this image from Di's digi downloads and now i have a chance to use it.

At Card Crafter's Circle our theme is "Pearls and Lace" and that seemed fitting for a baby girl too.

Actually, it came early this year..it seems like as i write this spring is in full bloom and it's only April 2..by the time this card goes live, i am afraid that my flowers will be done.

Oh i sort of laugh at myself coming up with titles..i think...i can't have it be the same title..so this is what i came up with.

Fairy Delights

What a fun card to make.  Not too often do i used clip art instead of a digital image, but this one worked out perfectly for the "Orange and  Green" challenge at Card Crafter's Circle blog.  My intention was to get the fairy to twirl in the cut circle.

What i did to my card:
I brought the image into my Photoshop program and "flipped" the image so i would have a front and back to my fairy as it rotated in the circle opening.  I "lightly adhered" the front of my card and then used a circle nestibilites to make the circle in the center.  I ran one of the fairies through the Xyron machine. I attached heavy duty thread (or fish line would be great) and used heavy duty double sided tape to the "center" of the fairy and then attached the thread under the card front and adhered all of the front down permanently.  The wreath is a Memory Box die...i love it!

Which comes first the chick or the egg?

Is that the same as which comes first the image or the card base?  Thought i'd share what i've learned in the last few months as i've enjoyed making cards.  First,i used to color my images first, and it took a while to find the right backgrounds to go with my image.  Then i asked the question of a blogger, do you pick your paper first and then color your image, because they "matched" so well.  She said, she DID find her background paper first.  I don't always do my cards "card base" first, but i've found it to be way easier.

So saying that i wanted to share this card in "progress" meaning i've made the base first.  I usually have some inspiration while i am making my card base, and that is why i love Feline Playful blog.

Here is what i did:

What i did for most of the card is use my cricut cartridges.  I had some old spools of thread and used those for the center of my accordion flowers.  I will include those here for anyone to use.  The white one printed off better than the gold one.

I found this awesome video on youtube and decided to try it Cricut style.  Now remember if you don't have a cricut this original video is great to hand cut your own bouquet of flowers and to be honest, it still is the best instruction for assembling your bouquet.

Just Married card

Over at the Card Crafter's Circle Challenge Blog we are having a "To Die For" theme...all you have to do is use a diecut whether it be from a die or hand cut.

Here is the card i created using one of the images from Limited Runs.

What i did was color and cut out the car image.  I added Glossy Accents to the window.  I also used Extreme Glitter Paint on the body of the car.  I used some large yellow gems for tail lights.  Then i punched holes for the string on the bumper and attached the letters to the string.  The die in the background is from Love Struck 2010 cartridge.

Okay so i am probably going to make like 7 of these treat containers w/the Valentine house.  They will probably be scanned images instead of the original one i colored, because i really don't have the time to color 6 more houses. :)

These images are so awesome, they tell a story all by themselves..i love this little story, don't you?

I used the cricut cartridge called "Cindy Loo" for the basket and then MS punch for the handle.  I placed hershey's kisses and heart shaped marshmallows in the container.

Vintage Hankie Style Card

This week at Card Crafter's Circle our challenge is to make a "White on White" card.  What isreally cool are the images we got to use.  Sweet, sweet images.  This little girl is the one i chose to use and instantly i thought of vintage and hankie.  I hope you like this creation. :)

What i did:
I used my embossing folder for the first layer and the floral embossing folder was from Craft Concepts.  Next i used MS Elegant Cake Cartridge for the doily, eyelet trims, butterflies and the flourish w/a flower.  The large paper flower is from Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge.  The heart charm is in the jewelry dept at one of the craft stores i visit (not sure if it is Michael's, Hobby Lobby or Joanns).  I also used the Viva liquid pearls.

How to simply paper piece and add "frosting" to a cupcake card

It's always fun to learn something new and practice getting better at something old.  Right?  I really like to paper piece..it gives my images some great dimension.  Also this new "frosting/snow" technique is super fun..see below...

*My info about scissors for paper piecing:
What i have learned is that the right scissors makes all the difference.  I have found the the scissors i use for making teddy bears have also worked wonderfully for cutting paper...but i wouldn't use the same scissors for both because paper dulls scissors.  So my recommendation for a pair of scissors to paper piece with would be to look at the blade width...not the length, but the width...the thinner the blade the skinnier the cut.  Then i look at the length...pretty much any scissors with a thin blade is pointy and sharp...which you need.  My scissor blade is about 1.5".  Another thing i've learned is to move the paper not the scissors so much.  Okay..so let's get started.

First you will need to print your image out, so you will know how big of piece of "pattern" paper you will need to paper piece with.
Then what i do is use piece of computer paper and hold it over the one i just printed, because then i will know where to place the paper i want to print on for my paper piecing.  I lightly tape the paper in the right position on the computer paper and print the image one more time.  (If you want more then one color to paper piece with you will print your image that many times)

I have already colored in my image, knowing that i will paper piece the cupcake wrapper and stars.  Next thing to do is cut out what you want from the pattern paper.  In this case *I cut out my paper piecing images on the outside line and not inside of the line..and not on the line...that way i know i am covering the image.  If i were going to "but up" two pattern paper pieces together, then i would cut on the line.

And this is what it looks like once you've glued your pieces on your "base".

Now for some fun.  I just learned this technique from another blogger.  (Thanks Lisa)  All you need is Marvy's Liquid Embroidery pen...it is heat activated.  At first i followed the directions and waited over night for it to dry..but I found out that once it's dry to the touch you can use your heat gun to "puff up"  the paint..and not wait overnight.
