however your card/project must include anything Lavinia (stamps, papers)
if added to the Anything Lavinia Facebook group.

For my project, I used
The stamp was stamped with VersaFine Clair - Nocturne

I wanted to do something different for this challenge. I had seen a beautiful butterfly on a canvas bag on facebook and i thought, i think i can create that idea using this gorgeous Lavinia Stamp.
What you need to know is this is an extra large butterfly/moth.  It measures about 5" tall with a wing span of 4.5".
Also canvas has raised threads so you will not get a solid inked image.  It's cool though.
I used a Misti platform for this but not in the way you are suppose to use a Misti.
The canvas bag with a zipper doesn't lay flat to stamp inside of a Misti.  So i taped the bag to my work space and then i used the Misti acrylic "block" top backwards.
So instead of the top folding in, i had it fold/swing out.
You are going to think, "how is that different than just using an acrylic block", right?  Well, i taped the base of Misti down also so it couldn't move, but i could still use the top and i could re-stamp two times without anything moving.  yay!
Now that is was stamped.. it looked cool without coloring it, but i chose to try a few things.
First i used Oxide inks as watercolors, by stamping my work base with the ink and adding water.  The center of the moth/butterfly was more solid than i wanted, so i started to use a lighter color for the wings.  I tried Copics on the outside of the wings, but i am not sure that the VersaFine Clair ink is compatible to the nibs of the Copics.  So i used Prismacolor pencils for the highlights.  As it turns out, Oxide ink and Prismacolor pencils are my choice of mediums.
I used Oxide ink around the butterfly/moth as well.
I used my heat gun to make sure it was dry and i started randomly embroidering around the moth/butterfly.
This bag will be a fun to use for a quick on the go bag...for walks etc.

  1. Hi, Bonnie~ Aren't you so clever to make a different type of "hinge" for your MISTI! Genius! Your canvas bag is BEAUTIFUL and I love the colors surrounding the winged wonder! Now, I am all the more impressed with your embroidered "x"s. How you ever maneuvered your graceful fingers in and out of the tiny bag, is the TRUE magic in this creation! It is delightful! hugs, de

  2. WOW, this looks amazing! Your embroidery is the perfect added touch too! Great tip on using your Misti a different way too. (FYI, VersaFine Clair and Copics don't play well together - it will hurt your Copics)

  6. This is such a fun project. Glad you were able to use your Misti for this. When stamping multiple times, the Misti is a lifesaver :-) The embroidery is lovely and just perfect to showcase this beautiful butterfly - I think it's just too pretty to be a moth :-)
    Have a great day!
